Kosovo Integration Initiative 2020
What is KOSINT 2020?
KOSINT is implemented in partnership between four civil society organizations engaged in the inclusion of members of the Roma, Ashkali, Egyptian communities in the social and economic fields. The project is supported and funded by the Roma Initiatives Office (RIO) within the Open Society Foundations (OSF). KOSINT aims to improve access for Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities in employment, housing and democratization (central and local elections, and population census), thus contributing to the impact on fulfilling the relevant commitments made by the Government of Kosovo, in the form of policies of sectoral reform which focus on employment, housing as well as democratization and active citizenship.
How does KOSINT 2020 operate?
KOSINT aims to empower Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities to demand their own rights and to be decision-making actors for their future at both the central and local levels, creating a greater collective power to rise their voice, to have greater unity among communities and to be treated equally in all sectors by institutions, responsible actors and politicians in Kosovo. This is based on important documents that oblige the Government of Kosovo to fulfill this goal, which includes signed laws, strategies and documents signed with international bodies for the empowerment of the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities.
KOSINT includes three main pillars:
Strengthening grassroot teams
KOSINT has expanded its field of activity by building structures at the local level, including seven municipalities of Kosovo: Ferizaj, Fushë Kosovë, Peja, Prizren, Gjakova, Mitrovica and Gracanica, through teams of activists in each city. The purpose of these teams is to strengthen the role of communities in the inclusion by seeking and protecting of their rights and active participation in decision-making processes.
Furthermore, KOSINT has a network of civil society organizations in various municipalities that contribute to the inclusion of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities. This Network will expand the impact of each organization and guarantee a wider range of activities in terms of monitoring and advocacy for community issues.
KOSINT will focus on several advocacy campaigns for the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities in the central and local government, to achieve the planned objectives for inclusion. Advocacy topics will be based on current developments and the contribution of dialogue to communities; public discussions; various reports, as well as EU integration policies. Furthermore, KOSINT will advocate for issues and policies following COVID 19, Civil Registration (census2021), Employment and Housing.
KOSINT will be involved in communicating with the public for all important activities and news related to the scope of KOSINT. Through public communication we will aim to reach the Roma, Ashkali, Egyptian communities, government actors, and traditional media.
